Cassio Taniguchi is a visionary in urban planning. Throughout his career in several governments, has achieved results that transformed the collective dream in urban and social practices for the benefit of the inhabitants. Elected mayor of Curitiba for two consecutive terms (1997-2000 and 2001-2004), commanded the guidelines of a city that turned into the Third Millennium with 1.6 million inhabitants, and is center of a metropolitan area with 26 municipalities and 2.7 million people.

Experienced as chairman of URBS (Urbanization of Curitiba S. A.) and Ippuc (Institute for Research and Urban Planning of Curitiba), and as Secretary of State for Planning and Industry and Trade, consolidated the change in state of Parana’s economic profile, by acting directly in the attraction and deployment of an Automotive Pole, with the automakers Audi/Volkswagen and Renault. 

In Curitiba, transformed empty urban areas into development and employment axes, made technology within reach of all citizens and therefore the city conquered the best Human Development Index in Brazil. 

His actions brought to Curitiba the CIFAL (International Training Centre for Local Authorities) for Latin America, Caribbean and Portuguese-speaking Africa. His specialties: result based urban management. His challenge: working for the urban and social sustainability. 

Consultant of major urban projects in Brazil and abroad, such as Goiania, Rio de Janeiro, Aracaju, and Abu-Dhabi (UAE), Bogota (Colombia) and Lyon (France), and lecturing throughout the world, was Elected Federal Deputy in 2006, and now holds the role of Secretary of Urban Development and Environment for the Federal District.
